In vitro: In vitro research refers to the study of a biological process in a controlled environment such as a test tube or petri dish in isolation from a living organism. It is contrasted with in vivo research, carried out within the organism, such as animal testing and clinical trials (e.g. of drugs). Most research at present (2009) is carried out in vitro. |
