Primary source Monesi 1962 abstract: "Mice were injected intraperitoneally with 15 microc of H(3)-thymidine. The time course of the labeling in spermatogonia and spermatocytes was studied by using autoradiography on 5 micro sections stained by the periodic acid-Schiff method and hematoxylin over a period of 57 hours after injection." Primary source Lok and de Rooij 1983 abstract: "The cell cycle properties of the six successive generations of differentiating spermatogonia in the Chinese hamster were analysed by the fraction of labelled mitoses technique (FLM) … Autoradiography of whole mounted seminiferous tubules at 1 hr after injection of [3H]thymidine, and experiments with Ara-C revealed that the differentiating spermatogonia traverse S (synthesis phase) in sharply defined tubular segments." |

P.783 right column bottom paragraph: "The cell cycle duration of A2 through B spermatogonia has been estimated to be 28.5 hours (primary source Monesi, 1962) in mice, 42 hours in rats (primary sources Hilscher et al, 1969, Huckins, 1971a), and 60 hours in Chinese hamsters (primary source Lok and de Rooij, 1983a). For As, Apr, and Aal spermatogonia, cell cycle times have been found to be 56 hours in rats (Huckins, 1971c) and about 90 hours in Chinese hamsters (Lok et al, 1983)." |
