Abstract: "Here [investigators] present a global, spatially explicit and observation-based assessment of whole-ecosystem carbon turnover times that combines new estimates of vegetation and soil organic carbon stocks and fluxes." |
Comments |
Methods 1st page left column 5th paragraph: "The global soil carbon stocks are comparable to a previous estimate of total soil organic carbon of 2,344 PgC in the top 3 m of soil (ref 34) (Supplementary Table 1). The range of estimated SOC values varied significantly between the different biome types across the world (Supplementary Table 1). According to [investigators'] estimates, tropical biomes (forest, savannahs, grasslands) together account for 32% of the global soil carbon stock, and the areas of largest integrated stock are found in tropical (20%) and boreal (19%) forests."
