Abstract:"Using two independent methods, incorporation of radioactive amino-acid and quantitative immunoblotting, [investigators] have determined that the rate of synthesis of each of the Semliki Forest virus (SFV) proteins in infected baby hamster kidney (BHK) cells is 1.2 X 10^(5) copies/cell/min." |
Comments |
p.2145 left column 3rd paragraph: "The data given above on the rate of synthesis of E1 can be used, with the knowledge of the time taken for the molecules to pass through each organelle (primary source 14) and the morphometric data on the surface area of the organelles in the accompanying paper (primary source 16) to calculate the density of E1 in the rough ER and Golgi membranes. This data is summarized in Table II. Clearly the viral protein is very dilute at its site of synthesis, and is concentrated by several orders of magnitude during transport." See note beneath table.
