Comments | "There is a voluminous literature on the relationship of Ca2+ uptake to oxidation, which can only be summarized here (see also: 232, 235, 308). Briefly, addition of a limiting amount of Ca2+ to respiring mitochondria elicits a burst of respiration, which ceases when all the Ca2+ has been taken up. Concomitantly, protons are ejected and the internal pH of the mitochondria rises by a unit or more (7, 121)." |
