The strain P. putida KT2440 was
grown on a nutrient-rich growth medium (Luria broth, LB) plate at 30 °C overnight. A total volume of 1 ml of this starter culture was used to inoculate 100 ml of a defined high nitrogen mineral salts (MS) medium. Glucose, glycerol, citrate or the fatty acid, lauric acid, was added as the sole carbon source to the MS media. The growth of P. putida KT2440 on these sole carbon sources was
measured at different time points (Fig. 2). |

The growth of cells on citrate
was the fastest in the first 24 h, and the doubling time was 1.63 h during
the exponential phase. P. putida is the first patented organism. |
