"The results (Table II) showed the greatest abundance of RNA
polymerase II, in keeping with its involvement in both the
initiation and elongation of transcription. The level of TFIIF
was nearly the same, as expected from its tight association
with RNA polymerase II and from its likely role in both transcription initiation and elongation as well (ref 16)." Range of the 6 TF copies in table is 6,000-24,000 proteins/cell. Note-(1) Frank A. Robey, 'Use of capillary electrophoresis for binding studies' in James P Landers, Handbook of capillary electrophoresis, 1996, pp 598 writes: "...it is believed that there are only 10^3-10^4 molecules of transcription factors per cell nucleus,...". (2) Bolouri et al, 2003 PMID 12883007 give value of 300-10000 TF proteins/cell in sea urchin. |
