Method |
The cross-sectional area of each cell
type was determined by microprojection on cross-sectional paper and
planimetry of the area bounded by individual cells. Cross-sectional areas of
the cell nuclei were also measured. For growth conditions see bottom of p.273 and top of p.274 |

Living cells were employed in all these determinations, and
measurements were repeated on at least 20 different cells of each type. The
mean and standard deviation of each type of measurement is presented in Table
I. Spread surface area for cells in human serum. Area of cell in porcine serum was 370±100µm^2. See Itzhak et al., PMID 27278775 p.9 top paragraph: "...a cell surface area of ∼1,600 μm^2 typical of adherent HeLa cells (Fisher and Cooper, 1967)..." |
