In contrast to tRNA selection that depends on the exact geometry of nucleotide base pairing to determine selectivity, release factors depend on RNA-protein interactions to discriminate between highly similar sense and nonsense codons. Interestingly, the accuracy of this reaction is more than one order of magnitude greater than that for tRNA selection. Note-Dong et al., 1995 PMID: 7752224 p.556 left column 1st paragraph give a processivity loss of 2×10^-4 per codon. |
