P.6862 left column top paragraph: "There are three features of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) transcription in most eukaryotes that distinguish it clearly from rRNA synthesis in prokaryotes: (i) the use of a specific Pol I, (ii) the presence of tandemly repeated rRNA genes, and (iii) the presence of the nucleolus. Regarding the number of rRNA genes, E. coli has seven, four of which are located fairly close to the origin of replication but are not tandemly connected, whereas the yeast S. cerevisiae carries about 150 in tandem repeats." |
