Comments It is noteworthy that there are conflicting reports on relative abundance of h-mtTFA and mtDNA in vivo, ranging from 35 (primary source 2) to 50 (primary source 1) to approximately 3,000 h-mtTFA (note-primary source 3 gives value of 1,700 rather than 3,000) molecules per mtDNA molecule. The organizational units of mtDNA in vivo are nucleoids (27), which are protein–DNA complexes that contain 2–10 mtDNA molecules (28) that can be visualized with fluorescence microscopy as puncta in the organelle matrix.
