Method "Single-cell transcriptome analyses, which can be achieved through the use of various platforms, such as microarrays, massively parallel sequencers and bead arrays [12-17], are able to identify cell-type markers and/or rare cell types in tissues."
Comments "These platforms [mentined in Method above] require nanogram quantities of DNA as the starting material. However, a typical single cell has approximately 10 pg of total RNA and often contains only 0.1 pg of polyadenylated RNA, hence, to obtain the amount of DNA starting material that is required by these platforms, it is necessary to perform whole-transcript amplification (WTA)."
