Method Portions (5 ml.) of culture received H3 (32)P04, the quantities varying from O.5 mCi for control and shift-up cultures to 4.0 mCi for shift-down cultures. After 2 min the cells were collected over ice and centrifuged for 6 min at 30,000 g. The count rates were corrected for the decay of 32P during the counting, and where count rates exceeded 100,000 cts/min, corrections for coincidence losses were made.
