Comments P.219 left column bottom paragraph: "miRNA processing has been reviewed extensively and [investigators] present only the basic scheme here (for further detail, see refs 76, 123). Mature miRNA sequences are contained within regions of pri-miRNAs that fold back on themselves to form approximately 60–80 nucleotide stem-loop structures (Figure 2). These hairpin structures are excised from pri-miRNAs in the nucleus by the microprocessor complex that includes the RNA endonuclease Drosha and its binding partner DGCR8 as core components (refs 37, 52, 85, 90)." The stem loop structure is excised from a long mRNA trancript that is capped and polyadenylated (pri-miRNA), by Drosha. Pre-miRNA is then exported to the cytoplasm and hairpin cleaved to give miRNA
