Measured degradation rates (half-lives) of 184 whole cell proteins

Range 10 proteins 2 - 5 hours: 37 proteins 5 - 23 hours: the remainder were stable hours
Organism Bacteria Escherichia coli

Method "Cells were labeled with [3H]leucine and [35S]methionine using either a pulse-chase or a continuous labeling method. Proteins were fractionated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and their stabilities relative to total protein were determined from the 3H/35S ratios."
Comments "Moesteller et al. (primary source), measured the degradation rates of 184 whole cell proteins and found 10 proteins with half-lives of 2-5 h and another 37 with half-lives of 5-23 h the remainder of the proteins were stable."
