Comments P.4 right column bottom paragraph: "The second major assumption is that the rate at which mutations accumulate in the wild is equal to the mutation rate per year: in effect, [investigators] are assuming that all mutations are effectively neutral, at least over the time frame in which they are assayed (or that some are inviable, but the same proportion are inviable in the wild and the laboratory). In those accumulation rate studies, in which they have been studied separately, non-synonymous mutations accumulate more slowly than synonymous mutations: relative rates vary from 0.13 to 0.8, with a mean of 0.57 (electronic supplementary material, table S3)."
