Method |
Primary source abstract: "To obtain estimates of the growth rates of P. aeruginosa in CF lungs, [investigators] used quantitative FISH [Fluorescence in situ hybridization] to indirectly measure growth rates of bacteria in sputum samples (reflecting the in vivo lung conditions). The concentration of rRNA in bacteria isolated from sputa was measured and correlated with the rRNA contents of the same bacteria growing in vitro at defined rates." |
Comments |
P.1 3rd paragraph: "More recently Yang et al. [primary source] have shown that the DT [doubling time] of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is correlated to cellular ribosomal content in vitro and have used this to estimate the DT in vivo in a cystic fibrosis (CF) patient to be between 1.9 and 2.4 h." |
