Given that many physiological processes such as activity, psychophysical performance, blood pressure, and liver metabolism show daily variation, it is not surprising that cells cycle in a circadian fashion. The circadian clock, which orchestrates these daily rhythms, consists of a set of genes showing self-sustained rhythmicity in expression with a period of approximately 24 h [ref 21]." |
