Individuals with high BMI [body mass index] are at risk of developing several types of cancer including endometrial, colorectal, and ovarian and breast cancers [refs 28-29, primary source 30]. The incidence of cancer due to obesity is estimated to be approximately 20% of all causes of cancers [primary source]. The development of cancer in obese population is associated with the redox alteration caused by adipokines such as leptins, adiponectin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), TNF-α and interleukin (IL)-6 [ref 31]." |
