Abstract: "[Investigators] collate and review data on size-based scaling laws for resource acquisition, mobility, sensory range, and progeny size for all pelagic marine life, from bacteria to whales. Further, [they] review and develop simple theoretical arguments for observed scaling laws and the characteristic sizes of a change or breakdown of power laws. [They] divide life in the ocean into seven major realms based on trophic strategy, physiology, and life history strategy." |

P.220 bottom paragraph: "Even though it would be possible to convert all sizes to a common measure, [investigators] do not find this useful, and consequently in this review [they] use the most convenient measure depending on the situation. [They] use the symbols w for weight, l for length, d for diameter, and r for radius, and [they] frequently make use of the conversion between length and weight as w∝l^3. Units of weight are indicated by subscripts, with gWW and gC referring to wet weight and carbon weight, respectively. Conversion relations are provided in Supplemental Table 1."
