For the GFP-tagged membrane proteins LacSΔIIA and BcaP, [investigators] determined the following diffusion coefficients: for LacSΔIIA-GFP Dmean = 0.020 μm^2 s^−1 and for BcaP-GFP Dmean = 0.019 μm^2 s^−1 (Fig. 3A, Table S3, n ≥ 22 cells), which is much slower than the Dmedian of GFP or β-galactosidase-GFP in the cytoplasm of L. lactis. These values are similar to those obtained for membrane proteins of similar size expressed in the cytoplasmic membrane of E. coli, 0.017–0.028 μm^2 s^−1 (Kumar et al., 2010)."
