Supplementary Text 2 p.23 top paragraph:"[Investigators] note that signal peptides (including peptide precursors) are typically less than 100 amino acids in length (primary source) and typical peptide and mRNA elongation rates (Neidhardt, 1987) are 21 amino acids/s and 50 nucleotides/s respectively. Thus peptide and mRNA elongation times can be ignored in comparison with transcription and translation initiation rates." |
