P.243 3rd paragraph: "Table I summarizes the Hb level, RBC [red blood cell] counts, and red cell indices for all individuals studied. Patients with β-thalassemia trait had the highest RBC count and the lowest MCV values, in contradistinction to patients with macrocytic anemia who had the lowest RBC count and the highest MCV of their erythrocytes. An inverse linear relationship between the MCV and the RBC count was found and the estimated regression line relating these two variables for all 219 individuals in the study was: y = -0.06x + 9.25. A statistically significant negative correlation between the MCV and the RBC count was found (r = - 0.78, p < 0.001)." |
