A given cell was irradiated using a femtosecond
pulsed laser that was focused into the sample through the
microscope objective. Value calculated from the Rayleigh equation using ?=420 nm, diameter ~2×0.61?/NAeff=1.4µm. |

Along the axis of propagation, the beam
diverges such that at a distance of 10µm from the waist its
cross-sectional diameter is ~6µm. Nuclei of neurons from the
hippocampus of Wistar rats were irradiated. |
