P.357 top paragraph: "Growth kinetics were monitored by measuring the absorbance of the culture (at 550 nm for cultures in LB medium and at 450 nm for minimal medium), using a Beckman spectrophotometer, model DU-2 (1 cm light path). The total number of bacteria was determined with a Petroff-Hauser counter, from samples fixed in 0.2% (v/v) formaldehyde at 0°C." For conditions of growth see note above table |
