Comments "In the early 1900s Albert Einstein showed that there is a simple relation between the diffusion coefficient, D, of a substance and the time, t, that it takes to diffuse an average distance, d, in a fluid medium. The relation for diffusion in one dimension is d^2=2 Dt. Now for glucose diffusing in water at room temperature, D is 6×10^-6 cm^2/Sec (see Table 2.1 for a listing of diffusion coefficients). This means that glucose takes about 0.08sec to diffuse across an intestinal cell [of length 10 micrometers (µm)]."
