NMR Biomed. 2008 Feb21(2):159-64 value calculated from personal communication with author, see Comments section & (for volume of 2,600µm^3) see p.6 4th paragraphPubMed ID17461436
Method P.3 2nd paragraph: "HeLa cells were grown as monolayers on polystyrene microcarrier beads (Nalge Nunc, Rochester, NY, USA) of 160–300µm diameter. Cells were cultured in a 95% O2 and 5% CO2 atmosphere (37°C) for 3 days to reach confluence in Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% (v/v) fetal calf serum, 2 mM L-glutamine, 100 units/ml penicillin and 100 μg/ml streptomycin." P.3 4th paragraph: "Light-microscopic images of cells on beads were acquired with a Nikon Diaphot 300 microscope."
Comments Researchers measured 24 cells and got a radius of 10.5±2.2 µm (mean ±SD), personal communication with author (Jeff Neil). The cells are a half sphere in culture, so the radius can be used to calculate a volume (mean 2,425µm^3 range 1,198-4,290µm^3). For value of 2600 µm^3 see ref p.6 4th paragraph: "The HeLa cell volume is 2.6 × 10^3 μm^3 as estimated from the cell diameter measured under the light microscope." Note-BNID 103719 gives range value of 4,400-5,000 µm^3. See BNID 105879
