Number of flagella in cell
Value | 10 Flagella/cell |

Organism | Bacteria Escherichia coli |

Comments | The flagellum is the organ of bacterial locomotion. It is a helical filament that is driven by a motor at its base and rotates relative to the bacterial surface, thereby propelling the cell through the medium. Note-Macnab 1987 (In 'E. coli and Salmonella') gives value of usually 8 per cell, range of 0-15. |
