Comments "In all [investigators’] simulations, the growth of the nitrite oxidizer was only marginal, since the ammonia oxidizer has higher uptake rates (Table 1) under conditions of low oxygen tension which were due to the high concentrations of the nitrogen substrates (Table 1). The low abundance of the nitrite oxidizer was useful for comparing different simulations and therefore substrate concentrations were not altered to facilitate the growth of the nitrite oxidizer."
