||Abstract: "Study design and methods: The optimized CO rebreathing method was used for evaluation of tHb [total hemoglobin mass] before and after 1-unit (erythrocyte concentrate) standard blood donation in 29 male volunteers (30 +/- 10 years, 181 +/- 7 cm, 76.6 +/- 11.2 kg). Subsequently, tHb measurements were performed in regular intervals until one of two termination criteria was met."
||P.1393 left column bottom paragraph: "Vascular compartments and venous variables: The data of the vascular compartments are presented in Table 1. After donation, a RCV [red cell volume] decrease of 9.1 ± 3.1 percent was opposed by a slightly delayed increase in PV [plasma volume]. The latter and a subsequent increase in RCV led to an unchanged BV [blood volume] compared to baseline after a small initial reduction (−2.9 ± 3.1%) within the first 2 weeks after donation. Table 1 also shows data of the venous variables ferritin, [Hb], and Hct after donation, which all decreased significantly when the baseline and first available measurement after donation are compared in all 29 subjects but subsequently, especially [Hb] and Hct had a greater variability compared to tHb."
