Method Researchers report the stimulation of pL activity by IHF in vivo and in vitro using DNAse footprinting and an abortive initiation assay (Mcclure et al 1978, PMID: 363712).
Comments The integration host factor of E. coli (IHF) is a small dimeric protein that bends DNA at the specific sequences to which it binds. It supports several cellular reactions involving the formation of higher-ordered structures, such as transposition, initiation of DNA replication, and bacteriophage lambda site-specific recombination. The rate of isomerization from the closed to the open complex (kf) at pL is unaffected by IHF. This value is a product of kf (isomerization constant, 0.00438sec^-1, BNID 105128) and kB (RNAP binding constant, (8.94×10^7M^-1)). See BNID 105127
