||Abstract: "To establish a quantitative relationship between VEGF [vascular endothelial growth factor] protein levels and oxygenation, [investigators] exposed exponentially growing clone A or HCT-8 human colon tumour cells in vitro (22 h at 37 degrees C) to oxygen concentrations from 21% (air mixture) to 0.01%."
||P.423 2nd paragraph: "[Investigators] have studied in vitro changes in either the intracellular levels or secretion rates of vascular
endothelial growth factor in two different human colon cancer cell lines as a function of the level of oxygenation. Intracellular VEGF protein levels increased by a factor of 17 for clone A colon cancer cells and by a factor of 80 for HCT-8 colon cancer cells from normoxic (21% 02) to hypoxic (0.01% 02) conditions (Figure 1 and Table 1)."
