Comments Using a newly developed liquid chromatography- tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) platform, researchers (Bennet et al., 2009 PMID 19561621) quantified over 100 metabolites in E. coli. This allowed calculation of the in vivo ?G for 25% of the reactions in E. coli metabolism, showing that about two-thirds occur with a loss of more than 10kJ/mol
