Comments "Denitrification becomes a prominent metabolic process when oxygen concentrations become vanishingly small. Three major quasi-permanent sites for water column denitrification exist within suboxic (O2<~2–4µM) portions of the thermocline in the Arabian Sea, the Eastern Tropical North Pacific (ETNP) and the Eastern Tropical South Pacific (ETSP)." The regions containing the largest volumes of water in the suboxic zone occur in the northern Arabian Sea, the Eastern Tropical North Pacific and the Eastern Tropical South Pacific (e.g. Deutsch et al., 2004).
