Density of AChE (acetylcholinesterase) binding sites in neuromuscular junction (NMJ) in sternomastoid muscles

Value 2990 sites/µm^2 Range: ±260 sites/µm^2
Organism Mouse Mus musculus
Reference Anglister L, Eichler J, Szabo M, Haesaert B, Salpeter MM. 125I-labeled fasciculin 2: a new tool for quantitation of acetylcholinesterase densities at synaptic sites by EM-autoradiography. J Neurosci Methods. 1998 Jun 1 81(1-2):63-71 p.68 right column top paragraphPubMed ID9696311
Method P.68 left column 2nd paragraph: "Sternomastoid muscles of three mice were exposed and incubated with 125I-Fas2 (0.4 μM, rationale above, for 90 min as given in Methods) so as to inactivate essentially all surface AChE binding sites." P.68 left column bottom paragraph: "Examination of EM-autoradiograms showed that the developed grains corresponding to 125I-Fas2 localization were highly concentrated at the NMJs." P.68 caption of fig.4: "Mouse sternomastoid muscles were incubated with 125I-Fas2 (0.4 μM, 55 Ci/mmole) to inhibit AChE activity and then rinsed, fixed and processed for EM-autoradiography. Developed grains appeared almost exclusively at the NMJs."
Comments P.68 right column top paragraph: "A site density value was calculated for each muscle separately and then averaged to give 2990±260 sites/μm^2 (Table 1)."
