Requirement for measured rate of fatty acid synthesis

Value 259 nmol NADPH/h/embryo Range: ±16 nmol NADPH/h/embryo
Organism Sunflower Helianthus annuus
Reference Alonso AP, Goffman FD, Ohlrogge JB, Shachar-Hill Y. Carbon conversion efficiency and central metabolic fluxes in developing sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) embryos. Plant J. 2007 Oct52(2):296-308 p.301 right column 2nd paragraphPubMed ID17683473
Comments "The oxidative pentose phosphate pathway (OPPP), localized in the plastid, provides enough reductant for oil production. The calculated OPPP flux can produce 550±36 nmol NADPH/h/embryo, whereas the measured rate of fatty acid synthesis requires 259±16 nmol NADPH/h/embryo."
