Primary source [124] abstract: "Nonjunctional and nonsynaptic membranes of hair cells in the chinchilla organ of Corti were examined using the freeze-fracture technique." Primary source [285] abstract: "The fine structure of subsurface cisternae and lamellar bodies in the outer hair cells of the guinea-pig organ of Corti was studied with thin sections and freeze-fracture replicas." |
Comments |
P.182 right column bottom paragraph: "The lateral membrane of OHCs contains a dense array of particles, first indicated in freeze-fracture images in the inner surface of the cytoplasmic leaflet (primary source 124) and associated with a complex pattern of cytoskeletal elements and submembranous endoplasmic reticula (primary source 285). These particles are 8–10 nm in diameter and present at high density. The precise diameter cannot be determined as the observed scanning electron microscope images depend on the preparation and the shadowing methods used." Primary source [124] abstract: “Cytoplasmic leaflets of the apical membranes of hair cells have particles, 6-12 nm in diameter, but many more particles are found on apical membranes of outer hair cells than on inner hair cells.” Primary source [124] studied chinchilla. Primary source [285] studied guinea-pig |
