There was 4 times more chlorophyll per unit area in LL [colonies from deeply shaded crevices] than in HL [Shallow-water, high-light-growing colonies] corals. This was totally due to a corresponding increase in pigments per single algal cell, demonstrating the phenotypic photoacclimative plasticity of the zooxanthellae (Table 1)." |
