P.2 right column 3rd paragraph: "Many life-mediated accelerations also include huge improvements in the temperatures and pressures at which reactions can occur. For example: the smectite-to-illite reaction, a transformation between two clay minerals. In the absence of microbial involvement, this transformation requires 4–5 months at 300 °C and high pressure (1,000 atmospheres). In the presence of the bacterium Shewanella oneidensis, the same reaction takes just two weeks— at room temperature and one atmosphere (primary source)." |
