Method Ex-vivo perfusion
Comments P.43 left column bottom paragraph: "The extent of lymphocyte recirculation in the spleen has been studied in different species by local irradiation [refs 1, 2], ex-vivo perfusion [primary source, ref 4] and in-vivo [refs 5, 6] and in-vitro [refs 7, 8] lymphocyte-labelling techniques. By attaching 32p-labelled polythene strips to the rat spleen [ref 1] or injecting β-emitting colloids into it [ref 2], Ford demonstrated that more lymphocytes pass through the spleen than recirculate through all lymph nodes. Ex-vivo perfusion [primary source] demonstrated that in each hour about 8x10^7 rat lymphocytes were exchanged between the blood and spleen (approximately equal to the total circulating blood pool or twice the thoracic duct lymphocyte output per hour early after cannulation)."
