about 15% of the cell volume [primary source 1]. The genome is precisely organized within such a limited cellular
space to ensure that DNA replication, segregation and gene expression are well orchestrated

Bioinformatics studies suggest that gene order within the chromosome contribute to the spatial organization of the DNA molecule and may optimize bacterial physiology [refs 4, 5].
