Abstract:"[Investigators] measured the psychophysical temporal integration of acoustic intensity in the echolocating bat Megaderma lyra using a two-alternative forced-choice procedure. A measuring paradigm was chosen in which the absolute threshold for pairs of short tone pips was determined as a function of the temporal separation between the pips." |
Comments |
P.38 right column bottom paragraph:"In experiment I, [investigators] used tone pips of 240 µs duration
and a carrier frequency of 16.6 kHz. The change of the absolute threshold of hearing as a function of the temporal separation of the two tone pips within one pair is shown in Fig. 3 for the three bats tested. The thresholds for two tone pips were about the same as that for only one tone pip, irrespective of the pip separations of 0.25 to 10 ms. This indicates that the intensity of the tone pips is not integrated for pip separations larger than 250 µs." |
