"Photoheterotrophic microbes include the proteorhodopsin
(PR)-based phototrophic (PRP) bacteria
and the aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic (AAP) bacteria... Proteorhodopsin is carried by 15% to > 70% of all
bacteria in surface waters, depending on the oceanic
region and detection method (BNID 111293). AAP bacteria are also
abundant, albeit not at the levels seen for PRP bacteria,
contributing 1% to as much as 30% of all bacteria in the
surface ocean (primary source)." |
