Analyses of exponential-
phase B. subtilis cells revealed that the wall thickness was greatest at cylinder-pole junctions (38.2 nm) and over
developing septa (40.5 nm) the cylindrical wall (a region of
high turnover [primary source]) and cell poles (regions of low turnover
[primary source]) were consistently thinner at 33.8 nm (Graham, L. L., and T. J. Beveridge. Unpublished results.).
