N2 fixation was measured on samples after about 7 d
of growth using the acetylene reduction assay (Capone
1993). Chlorophyll a (Chl a) was determined spectrophotometrically
using the procedure given by Jeffrey &
Humphrey (1975). |

The gross photosynthesis and respiration rates
were significantly related to the Fe concentration with
about 2- and 1.5-fold difference between 450 nM Fe
cultures and 9 nM cultures respectively (Table 1). |
