P.7 top paragraph: "At the head of this section, which is included for every element that occurs naturally on Earth, there is a table giving the amount of an element in the main components of the human body: blood, bone, and tissue (tissue generally meaning muscle tissue). Sometimes a single figure is quoted which means that there is little variation, with the body maintaining an equilibrium, balancing absorption against loss. Sometimes a range of values is given when research has shown that the particular element varies considerably from person to person." P.7 bottom paragraph: "The element that is most important is carbon, which is the basis of all the myriad of different molecules that make up the living cell. The amino acids, which account for most body tissue, are made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur and again this explains why these elements come high in the list." |
