P.466 left column top paragraph: "The results in Table III show that the number of ribosomes per cell decrease significantly in the presence of plasmids which can be explained by the burden on cell metabolism caused by the plasmids. The plausible effect is that more energy is directed toward maintaining the plasmid DNA than toward protein synthesis and thus less ribosomes are synthesized. Furthermore, [investigators] monitored the ribosomal composition of bacteria having induced plasmids (Fig. 5, fractogram 1) and used the bacteria with noninduced plasmids as control (Fig. 5, fractogram 2).
