Comments Whereas both the Fe4S4 and P clusters are inactivated by O2, the Fe4S4 cluster is much more susceptible and irreversibly damaged in vitro [J.R. Postgate, Nitrogen Fixation, 3 Edition, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1998, p. 112]. This is reflected by the difference in typical half-lives of the Fe-protein and MoFe-protein about 45 s and 10 min, respectively [primary source].
