Comments | P.51 right column 2nd paragraph: "The standard free energy for the reduction of CO2 depends on the redox potential of the photosynthetic electron donor employed (Table 4, Fig. 8). If this energy requirement for electron transfer is compared with the energy available after absorption of photons of different wavelengths, it becomes clear that oxygenic photosynthesis is not feasible in photosystems containing the known types of chlorin pigments, and requires the absorption of two photons per electron (Fig. 8)." The standard reduction potential is defined relative to a standard hydrogen electrode (SHE) reference electrode, which is arbitrarily given a potential of 0.00 volts. |
