Fraction of retina neurons that are ganglion cells

Value 63 %
Organism Wallaby Setonix brachyurus
Reference Harman AM, Moore S. Number of neurons in the retinal ganglion cell layer of the quokka wallaby do not change throughout life. Anat Rec. 1999 Sep 1256(1):78-83PubMed ID10456988
Method ganglion cell density was measured from a systematic 1% sample of the entire surface of retinal wholemounts
Comments This fraction is average of young animals, age up to 2.5 yrs and old animals over 7.5 years (66% and 60% of neurons, respectively), showing that number of ganglion cells in retina does not change throughout life.
